Wood Island Light has been guiding mariners since 1808. The 32-acre uninhabited island sits at the mouth of the Saco River just off the coast of Biddeford, Maine. A half-mile boardwalk connects from the western shore to the eastern part of the island, where the lighthouse sits. Early lightkeepers not only kept the beacon lit throughout the night, but they also farmed the island during the day.
